Principal’s Farewell

Dear Staff, Students and Families of Blessed Sacrament School

It is with mixed emotions that I write this final greeting to you. Although I am excited about the new prospect and challenges that come with moving to a new school, I am sad to leave a place that has become my second home for over 5 years.

Blessed Sacrament School is a hidden gem within our board.  Over the years, I have received many compliments from supply staff and visitors to our building about our students and staff. Compliments like these, truly made me beam with pride.  We have a staff here that truly cares deeply about the students in their care and invest so much of their time and effort into their education.

Over the past 5 years, we have built an excellent community, focusing on integrating our faith in all we do, with a push for academic excellence.  As I leave, I am very proud of the accomplishments that we have achieved, including our most recent EQAO scores.  Our school community is also a fun place to be, where through the initiative of parent volunteers, school council, staff and students we have many fun theme days, clubs, activities, and sports for the students to participate. The saying “it takes a village to raise a child” is lived out fully at Blessed Sacrament.

I wish to thank you for all your support over the years!  Thank you for the well wishes, emails, gifts, and hugs I have received over the past two weeks – they have been much appreciated and will be cherished.

In closing, please remember the main message of our theme book this year, “What’s my Superpower?”. All of you have a superpower that makes you unique and special – your superpower is always right in front of you. Use this talent that God has given you to make our world a better place.

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and Prosperous New Year! May God Bless you in 2023.

And for the last time – this is Mr. Petrella signing off.  Take care Bears!

Mr. Franco Petrella

Waterloo Catholic District School Board Schools Closed Friday, December 23 due to Weather

Dec 22, 2022

major winter storm is expected to reach Waterloo Region overnight tonight and is expected to cause dangerous driving conditions on Friday and over the weekend.

Based on this forecast – and with the safety of all in mind – the WCDSB in collaboration with the Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) and Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region (STSWR), has made the proactive decision to cancel ALL student transportation and close ALL schools and school board administrative sites tomorrow, Friday, December 23, 2022.

All before and after school programs and childcare centres co-located in schools will also be closed.

And all programs and services offered by St. Louis Adult Learning and Continuing Education Centres are cancelled and St. Louis sites will be closed.

We pray that everyone is able to remain safe during the storm, and we wish one and all a happy and blessed Christmas break.

We look forward to seeing everyone back at school on Monday, January 9, 2023.

Thursday December 22

Dear Families

We are excited that you will be coming to visit us at various times during the day to visit your child’s classroom.  Your teachers have posted information in their google classrooms as to specific times, etc.  I wish to caution you about parking. Today the school next door had an event and the bylaw officers were out ticketing all cars parked illegally.  A friendly reminder to pay attention to the signs and park were you are legally permitted to on the street.  This may mean walking a bit to school.  We will not be held responsible for any parking tickets visitors receive .

Secondly, the predictions is that we will have a significant winter storm on Friday. Please pay attention to newswire and all media outlets for news about bus cancellations and possible school closures.

Thank you

Mr. Petrella
