School Messenger – Safe Arrival Introduction to Parents

Dear Parents/Guardians,

At the Waterloo Catholic District School Board, one of our greatest priorities is ensuring that all our students arrive safely at
school each and every day.

To enhance our existing absence-checking procedure, we are introducing a new, more efficient student absence reporting
system called SafeArrival. This new system will reduce the time it takes to verify student attendance, make it easy for you
to report your child’s absence and easy for staff to respond to unexplained student absences.

With SafeArrival, you are asked to report your child’s absence in advance using any of these 3 convenient methods:

1. Using your mobile device, download and install the SchoolMessenger app from the Apple App Store or the Google
Play Store (or from the link at SchoolMessenger).

2. The first time you use the app, select Sign Up to create your account. Select Attendance then Report an Absence.

3. Use the SafeArrival website, SchoolMessenger. The first time you use the website, select Sign Up to create your
account. Select Attendance then Report an Absence.

4. Call the toll-free number 1-833-251-3283 to report an absence using the automated phone system.

These options are available 24 hours/day, 7 days a week. Future absences can be reported at any time.

In addition, we will use the SchoolMessenger Communicate automated notification system to contact parents whose child
is absent when the absence was not reported in advance. The automated notification system will attempt to contact
parents at multiple contact points until a reason is submitted for the absence. If our system is unable to reach the
designated contacts, office staff will follow up.

If you report your child’s absence in advance using the SafeArrival toll-free number, website or mobile app, you will NOT
receive these notifications.

Starting June 5th, 2024 please report absences in advance using SafeArrival instead of sending notes or calling/emailing the
school.

Starting June 5th, 2024 staff will begin using the SafeArrival notifications to let you know if your student is absent (when
you haven’t reported the absence in advance).

If you have children attending other schools, please continue to report absences using the existing procedures for those
schools.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we implement this new system.

Decades Day This Thursday!

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are excited to announce an upcoming event at Blessed Sacrament School that will take a trip through time! This Thursday, we will be hosting a “Decades Day”, where students will have the opportunity to dress up and experience the fashion, music, and culture of various decades.

This event is not only a chance for our students to have fun and express their creativity but also an educational opportunity to learn about different periods in history. Students are encouraged to choose a decade from the past century (e.g., the 1920s, 1950s, 1980s) and dress accordingly. They can channel iconic figures, fashion trends, or even significant events from their chosen decade.

We kindly request your support in helping your child prepare for this event by assisting them in selecting an appropriate outfit that reflects their chosen decade. Please ensure that their attire is in line with our school’s dress code policies.

Here are a couple guidelines to keep in mind:

  • Costumes should be respectful and appropriate for a school setting.

  • Accessories should be safe and non-disruptive.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Blessed Sacrament Staff
