May 30 – June 3rd Peek at Next Week

Hello Bears!

Here are the events taking place next week:

On Tuesday May 31st we will have our annual lock down drill, much like our fire drills.  The teachers will discuss ahead of time with their students how this is a practice, but an important one. Please discuss with your children how this is a practice, but it is important to have these drills and that they should pay close attention to the instructions.  For any questions, please contact your classroom teacher.

On Wednesday June 1st it is our weekly Bear Wear Day!  Some of our Junior/Intermediate Running Club members will participate in the WCDSB Cross Country Meet.

EQAO – our Grade 6s have been preparing and will write it on June 1st and June 2nd.

Friday June 3rd is a PA Day and there will be no school.

As you may be aware from the news, there is a bus driver shortage. It is important for families to ensure they receive the notifications of delays and/or cancellations from the bus company. Here is the link you can use to sign up for these notifications:

We will have our June Newsletter coming out next Friday.  Please look for it and click on the link as there will be lots of information about the June events, which includes year end activities.

May 22nd – 27th

Hello Everyone!

A reminder that our Domino’s Gift Card Fundraiser is coming to a close this Sunday May 22nd!  This is your last chance to support the school with this excellent promotion – please visit School CashOnline.

Monday May 23rd is a Holiday – there will be no school.  We look forward to seeing the students return to school on Tuesday.

Friday May 27th is a Skittles Theme Day here at school.  Each class will wear a colour of a skittle. Your homeroom teacher will send out communication about your child’s colour.

A reminder that when you are picking up your child, you are to come to the front door and buzz.  We have many parents calling from the car or honking at the school.  Legally, we must release the child to the adult and we must see that exchange take place.  Thank you for your cooperation.

The Learning Commons will be open next week only and then will be closed for the month of June.  All Library books must be returned by June 2nd. Mrs. J will be cataloging and sending home lists in June of overdue books.  Please check around you home to see if you have any that can be returned to the school.

Thank you and have a safe weekend!

May 16 – 20 News

Dear Families

  1. We ask for your prayers as our Grade 2 and 7 students received the sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation on Saturday May 14th.  Thanks to Rev. Larry Parent and Rev. Pawel Stankiewicz for celebrating these services with the Blessed Sacrament School Community.
  2. Next Week we have our May Crowning.  We look forward to this annual tradition of honouring our Heavenly Mother in this month dedicated to her.  We continue to ask our Blessed Mother to pray for us, for peace in the world and for relief from this pandemic. Please join us in prayers to the Virgin Mary from home this week.
  3. We are in need of donations of baseball/softball gloves.  If you have any extra gloves laying around the house, that are not in use anymore, we would love to have them.  Please send them to school and your child can bring them to Mrs. Avery.
  4. As we are in the second half of May and heading towards June, a friendly reminder about the weather.  Like in winter, we need to dress for the season. Please check the weather daily to ensure students are appropriately dressed for summer weather.  The students are outside for the two 15 min recesses and a 40 min lunch. They will most likely be outside for some instructional time also (e.g. gym, music etc.).  A loose fitting, light weight hat is also necessarily for protection from harmful UV rays. Please ensure your child/ren have sunscreen on before they come to school and have some in their backpacks to reapply throughout the day. It is also important for them to stay hydrated. We have a number of students coming to the office asking for cups, please ensure your child has a water bottle that they can fill regularly throughout the day with fresh water to stay hydrated.  As always, please label all of these items.
  5. Kindergarten Registration is still open.  We are close to having a third Kindergarten class created.  Being able to create that class by the end of June, rather than having to disrupt and change the organization in September is the best solution for our little ones.  Thus, if you have not registered yet, or know of someone who hasn’t registered yet, please encourage them to do so – sooner than later. Mrs. McGlynn in the main office would be more than willing to help during this process. Here is the kindergarten registration link:
  6. Lastly, next weekend is a long weekend and there will not be any school on Monday May 23rd.

Stay safe everyone!

Student Transportation Services of Waterloo Region (STSWR) Survey: We are asking parents and/or guardians to participate in a survey about their student’s journey to school. The purpose of the surveys is to get a better understanding of the thoughts and opinions of the student’s journey to school. We have created surveys for students using the school bus and for students who use other forms of transportation like walking or biking to school. Our goal is to enhance the student’s experience and to improve our services in the future. The survey typically takes 5 minutes to complete and will be open until Friday, June 10th, 2022. Thank you for providing your feedback. We appreciate the time you have taken and will actively use it to improve our services to you in the future!
