This Wednesday we choose kind by wearing pink as a symbol to not pick on one another, to not make fun of someone and laugh at his/her expense, to not exclude someone, to not hate someone, to not bully. It is much more than a bullying awareness day, because not acts are acts of bullying – it is about following the golden rule and choosing kind!
Pink Shirt Day started because some people in a high school thought it was funny to make fun of a Grade 9 boy who wore a pink shirt to school. That evening a group of senior students went to the local thrift store and bought as many pink shirts as they could find and handed them out the next day to all of their friends to wear to school. What an excellent example of a positive way to stand up for someone!
